Honors Festival

The Honors Festival is an annual event comprised of auditions and recitals exclusively for students of MAPTA teachers.  The festival provides pre-college students who have achieved a high level of proficiency the opportunity to audition and receive constructive written comments from established professional judges.  The judge will select a number of students to perform in a public recital.  This event is partially funded by a bequest from the estate of Mr. Hsen-Mu Huang.

Eligibility:  Any pre-college piano student (age 10 through age 18) who currently studies with a MAPTA member is eligible and encouraged to enter.  Students may play one or two pieces; the total playing time is not to exceed ten minutes.  All music must be played from memory.  The judges may specify the selection(s) to be performed if a student is chosen for one of the recitals.  Teachers may enter more than one student.  Students auditioning for the Honors Festival should perform piece(s) at least as difficult as those rated Level 5 and above in The Pianist’s Guide to Standard Teaching and Performance Literature by Jane Magrath.  Transcriptions and arrangements are not acceptable.

Registration and Fees:  Registration forms (paper only) and checks must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012.  No late entries will be accepted.  Send forms and the $20 fee per student (check payable to MAPTA) to Shu-Ching Chuang or Jane Peckham.  Audition times will be sent to the teachers by e-mail.  Registration forms are available in the members area.
