Honors Festival

The Honors Festival is an annual event comprised of auditions and recitals exclusively for students of MAPTA teachers.  The festival provides pre-college piano students who have achieved a high level of proficiency the opportunity to audition and receive constructive written comments from an established professional judge.  That judge selects a number of students in Grade 5 and above to perform in public recitals.   This year (2013), students will audition for Margarita Kontorovsky.   This event is partially funded by through a bequest from the estate of Mr. Hsen-Mu Huang.

Eligibility:  Any piano student from Grade 4 to 12 who is a student of a current MAPTA member is eligible to enter.  The Grade 4 students will receive comments only.  The Grade 5 – 12 students may be chosen for the recital.  Students may play one or two pieces with the total playing time not to exceed ten minutes.  All music must be played from memory.  The judge may specify the piece to be performed if the student is chosen to play on one of the recitals.  Teachers may enter more than one student.  The repertoire must be at or above Level 6 as listed in The Pianist’s Guide to Standard Teaching and Performance Literature by Jane Magrath.   [Transcriptions by major composers by special permission only.   Deadline:  1 November.]

Registration and Fees:  Registration forms (paper only) and checks must be received by 5 PM on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.  No late entries will be accepted.  Send forms and the $20 fee (check payable to MAPTA) to Shu-Ching Chuang.  Audition times will be sent to the teachers by email.   The registration forms and judging forms will be available on the MAPTA website.  Details are subject to change.  Please check Nuances for verification.
